Preparing your outing
A successful mountain outing begins at home
Weather checks, route mapping, and pack readiness decide how a day in Belledonne unfolds. Plan each step before you leave the car park, and keep your own limits in view.
Method
Four steps before you set out
01
Study the route
Read the route description, note the terrain, and compare it with your group's experience. Plan a turnaround point in advance.
02
Verify the weather
Check the mountain forecast on the day of the outing and again before departure. Mountain weather can change quickly, with fog, storms, and residual snow.
03
Inspect your equipment
Lay out your layers, footwear, navigation tools, and water. Make sure every item works and that the pack is balanced for the day.
04
Set your timing
Choose a start time that leaves margin for the return. Respect your conditioning and be ready to turn back when conditions deteriorate.
Before every outing
Check the weather, snow, closures, and route conditions before every outing. Local bulletins and notices can change at short notice.
